African Games: Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah wins gold for Ghana in high jump

Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah thrilled the local audience at the University of Ghana Stadium by successfully defending her African Games high jump title on Tuesday evening, clearing a height of 1.90 meters. This victory echoed her triumph at the 2019 Games in Rabat, Morocco, where she also clinched the gold.

Yeboah's latest achievement marked a significant improvement from her previous best of 1.84 meters, set five years ago. However, despite her stellar performance, the 22-year-old athlete has yet to secure qualification for the Olympic Games. She made valiant attempts at the qualifying height of 1.97 meters but fell short during her third try at 1.94 meters, missing the mark by a mere 0.03 meters.

In the competition, Yeboah left her rivals trailing behind, with Guinea's Balley Fatoumata claiming second place and the silver medal with a jump of 1.81 meters, while Algerian Darina Hadil Rezik secured the bronze with a jump of 1.78 meters.

Although Ghanaian sprinters, including local favorite Benjamin Azamati, faced disappointment in the men's and women's 100-meter finals, Yeboah's gold medal victory and subsequent lap of honor infused the stadium with jubilation, lifting the spirits of the spectators.
