In a surprising move, Paris has introduced “anti-sex” beds for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games. These beds, known for their small twin size and eco-friendly materials, are allegedly designed to discourage athletes from engaging in sexual activities during the competition.

The beds, manufactured by Airweave, are a repeat of the model used in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They are constructed with 100% recyclable latex foam mattresses and cardboard frames. According to Inside the Games, the primary reason behind this choice is sustainability.

“I hope that Paris 2024’s efforts to reduce its impact will show that it is possible to do things differently,” said Georgina Grenon, director of environmental excellence for the organizing committee.

Over the years, tales of Olympic athletes indulging in wild sexual escapades have made headlines. For instance, table tennis player Matthew Syed recounted to the Times of London his experiences at the 1992 Barcelona Games, where he had more sexual encounters in two and a half weeks than at any other time in his life.

Despite the intention behind these anti-sex beds, some are skeptical about their effectiveness. Past accounts suggest that athletes often find ways to engage in intimate activities regardless of the constraints. At the 2012 London Olympics, an anonymous athlete admitted to a foursome in the Olympic Village, and a US two-time gold medalist described seeing people having sex openly on the grass between buildings.

Whether these new beds will successfully curb the amorous activities of Olympians remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the organizing committee's focus on sustainability and environmental impact is taking center stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
