In a bid to expand its global reach, ITA Airways, a prominent European carrier, has received the green light to commence commercial flight operations to Accra, the capital of Ghana.

The Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority have granted the necessary approvals, paving the way for ITA Airways to initiate its services. The airline is gearing up to offer a convenient four times weekly direct flight from Rome, Italy to Accra, with detailed flight schedules set to be unveiled shortly.

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm, particularly by Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). She expressed excitement about the prospect of welcoming ITA Airways to Kotoka International Airport (KIA), highlighting the airline's addition as a testament to the airport's growing portfolio of international carriers.

"We look forward to ITA Airways’ inaugural flight on June 6, 2024, just in time for the summer peak travel season," remarked Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare. She emphasized GACL's commitment to ensuring seamless operations and processes, collaborating closely with ITA Airways and other relevant agencies to deliver a hassle-free travel experience for passengers.

ITA Airways' entry into the Ghanaian aviation market is expected to enhance connectivity and provide passengers with more flight options. The airline's presence marks a significant milestone, making it the 24th international carrier to operate into Accra.

Currently, Kotoka International Airport is serviced by an array of international airlines, including British Airways, Emirates Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Turkish Airlines, among others. With ITA Airways joining the ranks, travelers can anticipate increased accessibility and convenience when flying to and from Accra.

In addition to ITA Airways' expansion, various other developments are making waves in Ghana, from calls for protest against erratic power supply to advocacy for human rights. However, amidst these stories, the aviation sector's growth remains a focal point, with ITA Airways poised to contribute to Ghana's air transport landscape significantly.
