In a recent development, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended nine individuals across the nation on charges of disseminating false news regarding the alleged disappearance of their genitals.
These unfounded assertions triggered widespread fear and chaos among the populace, even instigating attacks on innocent citizens. However, subsequent comprehensive investigations, including medical examinations, conclusively debunked all allegations as baseless.
Six individuals were detained in Kasoa, Central Region, while two were apprehended in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, and one in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, for fabricating reports of missing genitals. Among these, five have been arraigned before the court, with three remanded into Police custody and two granted bail. The remaining suspects are under Police inquiry bail, awaiting impending court proceedings.
Expressing profound concern, the Ghana Police Service underscored the escalating trend of individuals propagating false claims about genital disappearance, which frequently culminate in vigilante assaults against innocent bystanders. The Police Service vehemently cautioned the public against participating in such criminal acts, emphasizing the detrimental impact on both innocent individuals and public tranquility.
