Construction of Bridge Causes Heavy Traffic in Oda
The heavy vehicular traffic in Oda caused by the construction of a bridge by Aluscom Company Limited, funded by the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme. Discover how this project is affecting commuters and the progress of other infrastructure work in the town.
The bustling town of Oda is experiencing significant congestion, with heavy vehicular traffic plaguing the main Oda-Mankessim road. The culprit? Construction activity by Aluscom Company Limited, a prominent construction firm, erecting a bridge right in the heart of the town.
Commencing in the second week of February 2024, the project, anticipated to conclude by mid-May 2024, is financed by the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme, facilitated by the World Bank.
Aluscom Company Limited's endeavor involves the construction of vital drainage systems, stretching from the Kumasi lorry park at Oda across the primary road linking the town with Mankessim. These drains are designed to facilitate the smooth flow of floodwaters to the Bonwore Stream at Oda Old Town, mitigating the risk of flooding.
An inspection conducted by the Birim Central Municipal Coordinating Director, Haruna Amadu Zure, alongside the Daily Graphic team, revealed steady progress in the construction efforts.
According to Emmanuel Dapaah, representing the consultant to the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme, the completion of concrete casting marks a significant milestone. With this phase accomplished, the road is poised to reopen for motorists by mid-May 2024, barring unforeseen circumstances.
The imminent reopening of the main road heralds relief for commuters traveling from Oda to various destinations including Akyem Swedru, Awisa, Akyem Achiase, Akyem Aperade, Breman Asikuma, Mankessim, and beyond. These travelers have endured detours through narrow roads and streets within Oda, exacerbating traffic congestion within the town.
Moreover, the dusty conditions of these alternative routes pose challenges for street hawkers and pedestrians alike. Additionally, the congestion impedes the progress of another crucial project: the tarring of Oda town roads, further compounding the issue.
As the construction nears its completion, residents and commuters eagerly anticipate the easing of traffic woes and the restoration of smooth travel along the vital Oda-Mankessim route.
