The 2024 Elections; NPP flagbearer Bawumia engages GUTA

The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, recently met with representatives of the Ghana Union of Traders' Association (GUTA) in Accra for an insightful discussion on the NPP's proposed policies and vision.

The interactive session, convened on a Friday afternoon, brought together over 80 traders' associations under the umbrella of GUTA. Dr. Joseph Obeng Darko, the President of GUTA, initiated the dialogue, inviting members to share their insights and concerns regarding the business sector with Dr. Bawumia and his team.

Dr. Bawumia adopted an open approach during the meeting, encouraging active participation from GUTA members and addressing their queries and suggestions.

Commendation was given to Dr. Bawumia for his proposed tax reforms, including tax amnesty and a flat tax rate, with the GUTA President expressing optimism about the positive impacts such policies could have on businesses. He highlighted the potential simplification and enhancement of business operations under the proposed tax regime.

Among the prominent concerns raised by GUTA was the issue of harassment faced by businesses from tax officials under the current tax system, which Dr. Bawumia pledged to address through comprehensive overhaul.

In response to queries and suggestions from GUTA members, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. He reiterated his ambition of positioning Ghana as one of the most business-friendly economies globally, outlining key policies geared towards achieving this goal, including the implementation of a transparent flat tax rate system inspired by Estonia's successful model.

Dr. Bawumia's engagement with GUTA forms part of his broader strategy of interacting with stakeholders across diverse sectors, seeking their input, and elucidating his policies in anticipation of the 2024 elections.

Stay tuned for further updates on the evolving dialogue between political leaders and stakeholders as Ghana prepares for its next electoral cycle.
