76-Year-Old Woman Stabbed to Death by Daughter in Abuakwa-Asenemaso

In a tragic turn of events, a 76-year-old woman with a disability was stabbed to death by her daughter, Joyce Boateng, at Abuakwa-Asenemaso in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District. According to reports, Joyce was driven to commit the act after two pastors accused her mother of being a witch.

Witnesses saw Joyce heading towards the cemetery with blood stains, initially believing she had been injured. She later attempted to obtain chemicals from an agro-chemical shop, but was stopped by a nephew who intervened. Joyce's brother revealed that the pastors' accusations led her to believe her mother was a witch, resulting in the fatal attack.

Isaac Owusu Boateng, the assembly member for the Asenemaso electoral area, confirmed the incident and mentioned that Joyce had also attempted to poison herself. He emphasized the urgent need for increased public awareness and education on such sensitive issues.

“This woman had five children and was always in a wheelchair. What I can say is, the media should educate people on issues like this. The pastor told her this but there is no evidence. In Ghana, some women respect their pastors more than their husbands,” he remarked.

The tragic incident underscores the dire consequences of unfounded accusations and the influence of religious figures in personal matters, highlighting the importance of critical awareness and education within the community.
