The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, heralds the inauguration of the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, emphasizing its pivotal role in fostering increased trade flows and investments in the Ashanti region.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, accompanied by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, officiated the opening ceremony on Friday, May 10. The event was attended by traditional leaders, government officials, and NPP members, marking a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development.

The completion of the airport expansion project, renamed as the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport, signifies a substantial investment aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the Ashanti Region. The multi-phase endeavor, initiated in May 2018, encompasses state-of-the-art facilities including a new terminal building, VIP lounges, restaurants, and boarding gates, amounting to a total investment of 66 million Euros.

Despite facing delays, attributed mainly to financial constraints, the airport now stands ready to accommodate international flights, boasting a capacity to handle 800,000 passengers annually. President Akufo-Addo, in his address, lauded the transformation of Kumasi Airport into an international gateway, heralding it as a catalyst for economic growth, international trade, and tourism.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Asantehene, Juabenhene Nana Otuo Siribuor II highlighted the significance of the airport in reducing travel costs and enhancing connectivity for residents. However, Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah clarified that while the terminal's commissioning marks a milestone, full commercial operations will commence after the completion of remaining works by the end of June.

The Prempeh I International Airport's inauguration symbolizes a significant stride towards regional development, promising to usher in a new era of prosperity and connectivity for the Ashanti Region and beyond.
