Ghana receives International Civil Aviation Organization Award

Accolades poured in as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) bestowed upon Ghana the esteemed TRAINAIR PLUS Silver membership, lauding its remarkable strides in aviation training across the West African region.

The ceremonial presentation took place amidst the grandeur of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Ghana's Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, stood tall as he received the accolade from ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano and Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar.

This recognition wasn't just for the Minister but also a testament to the relentless efforts of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and its subsidiary, the Ghana Civil Aviation Training Academy (GATA), in fostering excellence in aviation education.

Under the theme "Optimizing Aviation Capacity: Strategies for Safe Skies, Sustainable Future," the symposium served as a crucible for discussions on vital implementation strategies to bolster aviation safety and sustainability. Emphasis was placed on the pivotal role of continuous learning and emerging technologies in propelling effective capacity-building endeavors.

GATA's ascension to the esteemed Silver Membership status within the TRAINAIR PLUS Program stems from its stellar performance in 2023, where it amassed significant training miles, cementing its reputation as a beacon of aviation training excellence.

This accolade grants GATA the privilege to host ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS courses, promoting an affordable, competency-based approach to aviation training. Furthermore, it enables GATA to spearhead technical support initiatives for training instructors, maintain stringent standards of training and competency for aviation personnel, and address critical elements outlined by ICAO regarding personnel training and qualification.

In a move showcasing Ghana's commitment to aviation advancement, the Silver membership status also translates into tangible financial benefits, slashing annual subscription fees to ICAO by $5,000.

Minister Asiamah, serving as the Special Guest of Honor at the symposium, took center stage in a high-level round table discussion, articulating Ghana's achievements and outlining future trajectories for the nation's aviation sector. His address underscored Ghana's aspirations to emerge as a global leader in aviation.

The symposium wasn't just a forum for rhetoric; it fostered tangible networking opportunities for industry experts, aviation professionals, and regulatory body representatives. These interactions paved the way for potential collaborations and partnerships, laying the groundwork for a more robust and interconnected aviation ecosystem.

With each symposium participation, Ghana's Ministry of Transport and the GCAA inch closer to elevating GATA's membership status, thereby further reducing subscription fees and reinforcing Ghana's stature in the global aviation landscape.

Among the dignitaries accompanying Minister Asiamah was Ing. Charles Kraikue, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, symbolizing Ghana's unified front in propelling its aviation sector to greater heights.
