The Sustainable Development Excellence Awards 2024: A Night of Recognition and Inspiration

On June 8, 2024, the prestigious Sustainable Development Excellence Awards (SDEA) were held at My Royal Hostel's conference hall from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The event was a celebration of outstanding achievements and innovations in sustainable development, gathering influential personalities, organizations, and innovators committed to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility.

 The evening began with a warm welcome address by the hosts and Masters of Ceremony, Bernice Kumi and Godwin Earl. Following this, the Executive Director of the African Youth for Sustainable Development (AYSD) and CEO of Top Knowledge Media, Mr. Samuel Apeti, provided an insightful overview of the event and its agenda. He highlighted AYSD's mission to empower African youth to tackle pressing issues such as poverty, education, health, climate change, and economic development. By fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and engagement through various programs, workshops, and advocacy efforts, AYSD aims to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of its initiatives, AYSD established the Sustainable Development Excellence Awards (SDEA) to recognize and celebrate excellence in sustainable development. These awards honor organizations, projects, and individuals dedicated to sustainability, with criteria including measurable impact, innovation, scalability, and alignment with the United Nations' SDGs. The awards aim to inspire best practices, foster collaboration, and promote knowledge sharing among stakeholders.

Dr. Martin K. Yamborigya, the Chairman of the event, addressed the audience on the importance and aims of the awards, emphasizing their role in motivating and recognizing efforts in sustainable development.

The award presentations began, honoring numerous distinguished individuals and organizations:

· Florence S. Kuukyi: Sustainable Development Excellence Female Personality Award and Sustainable Development Excellence Public Servant of the Year Award

· ZENA FOUNDATION: Sustainable Development Excellence NGO of the Year Award

· MENTORS FOUNDATION GHANA: Sustainable Development Excellence NGO of the Year Award

· Richard Nyarko: Sustainable Development Excellence in Leadership Award and Male Personality Award

· Samuel Kwaku Numana: Sustainable Development Excellence in Leadership Award - 1st Runner Up and Health Personality of the Year Award

· Derek Kisseh Pecku: Sustainable Development Excellence Award in Innovation and Invention

· Mohammed Nasiru (Nash Clothing): Sustainable Development Excellence Fashion Designer of the Year Award

· Nana Kwame: Sustainable Development Excellence CEO of the Year Award

· Beatrice Bonney-Gyasi: Sustainable Development Excellence Philanthropist of the Year Award

· Naomi Arthur: Sustainable Development Excellence Philanthropist of the Year Award

· Dejaay Lasisi: Sustainable Development Excellence DJ of the Year Award

· Degenue Ahodie Elikem Kwame: Sustainable Development Excellence in Agriculture Award

· Mohammed Imam Dawud: Sustainable Development Excellence Graphic Designer of the Year

· Torgbenu Mahama: Sustainable Development Excellence Visual Artist of the Year Award

· Alhassan Sadik: Sustainable Development Excellence Social Media Influencer of the Year Award

· Mus-Care Herbal Clinic: Sustainable Development Excellence Best in Herbal Clinic Award

· PATRICK AMEYAW: Sustainable Development Excellence Teacher of the Year Award

· King Moses Ekow Addison: Sustainable Development Excellence Pageant King of the Year Award

Special honorary awards were also presented to individuals for their exceptional contributions:

· Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel: Honorary Excellence in Student Leadership and Advocacy Award

· Dr. William Kwame Amankrah Appiah: Honorary Outstanding Educator Excellence Award

· Lawyer William Agbavitor: Honorary Excellence in Regulatory Leadership and Youth Empowerment Award

· Ms. Mateena Naa Djama Odoi: Honorary Excellence Visionary Leadership in Community Empowerment Award

· HRH Naa Issah Abdulai: Honorary Excellence in Traditional Leadership and Community Development Award

· Hon. Anointed Hills: Honorary Healthcare Engineering Leadership and Sustainability Award

· Mrs. Zainab Mohammed Sani: Honorary Excellence in Education and Health Advocacy Award

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of Florence S. Kuukyi as the Overall Winner of the Sustainable Development Excellence Awards 2024, who received a cash prize of $250.

Mr. Samuel Apeti then briefed the audience on Top Knowledge Media and its initiatives, including the Top Knowledge Media Talent Hunt Show. The winners of this show were also awarded during the event:

· Joseph Adotei Brown (Cypher): Top Knowledge Media Talent Star, received a cash prize of $400 

· Lovert Fumador (Allo_Ghaldem): 1st runner-up, received a cash prize of $200

· Vincent Dartey Etsey and Victor Dartey Atsu (V twins): 2nd runners-up, received a cash prize of $67 

A vote of thanks was delivered by Careen Lamptey, General Manager of Top Knowledge Media, who acknowledged the esteemed judges of the Talent Hunt show: Franklin Nir Okantey Adjetey, Harriet Aryeh-Lanyo, Samuel Baiden, Hon. Riffath-Yakub Abubakar, Samuel Defia, and Samuel Apeti for their massive contributions.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt closing speech from Inusah Latif Abdul, the Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Excellence Awards. He extended heartfelt congratulations to all award winners and expressed gratitude to the sponsors, partners, and volunteers for their unwavering support. The final remarks by Dr. Martin Kolbil Yamborigya brought the inspiring evening to a close, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable development and excellence.
