Sarkodie Denies Feud with Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy
Sarkodie clarifies that his recent lyrics were not meant to insult Nigerian stars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, emphasizing his respect for their work and contributions to African music.
In a recent interview with VoxAfrica, popular Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie addressed rumors of a feud with Nigerian Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. The "Adonai" hit-maker clarified that his lyrics, which some interpreted as jabs, were merely storytelling references reflecting his longevity in the music industry.
Sarkodie emphasized that his comments were not intended to belittle the accomplishments of these prominent Nigerian musicians. "Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido would never think I want to jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers," he stated.
The rapper explained that his recent song "Brag," released on May 10, was part of his upcoming "The Championship" EP, set to drop on May 24. He noted that the song's lyrics highlighted his enduring presence in the music scene and used well-known artists as points of reference. "Everybody knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Asake, and Davido. And it’s true that I was in the industry before they all came in. It’s just references of how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artists," Sarkodie elaborated.
Despite the controversy, Sarkodie expressed his enjoyment of the situation, appreciating the buzz it generated. "I don’t understand what is going on but I just love it. It is great PR, you cannot even pay for this," he remarked, indicating that the misunderstanding had worked in his favor by drawing attention to his music.
Sarkodie concluded by reiterating his respect for Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, calling them "amazing and incredible artists," and dismissed the notion of any ill will towards them.
