Family of Late Singer Mohbad Rejects Autopsy Results, Calls for Independent Investigation

The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has contested the autopsy results conducted following his controversial death on 12 September. They are now urging for an independent post-mortem and toxicology investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Mohbad, aged 27 at the time of his death, passed away under circumstances that prompted the authorities to exhume his remains for further examination. Initially, an autopsy conducted on 21 September by pathologists from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) was deemed inconclusive due to factors such as body decomposition and potential reactions to medications.

In a virtual press conference, attended by PREMIUM TIMES, the Aloba family expressed dissatisfaction with the findings, raising doubts about the integrity and thoroughness of the investigation. They specifically questioned the authenticity and venue of the autopsy, demanding transparency from the Lagos State Government.

The family's legal representative, Wahab Shittu, stated, "The inconclusive toxicology results are unacceptable to us and the Aloba family. We demand to know where and how these tests were conducted, as this information is crucial to understanding the cause of Mohbad's death."

Their concerns were further heightened by conflicting reports regarding a toxicology test allegedly conducted in the United States. A legal statement from the family highlighted discrepancies involving the National Medical Services Laboratories and ITSI Biosciences, raising questions about the test's validity and procedural integrity.

Emphasizing their demands for clarity and justice, the Aloba family called for a re-examination of the toxicology samples by an internationally recognized forensic laboratory. They insisted on the involvement of independent experts to oversee the process and ensure adherence to forensic standards.

Furthermore, the family appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to personally intervene in the case. They expressed frustration with the pace and professionalism of the investigation, urging swift action to uncover the truth behind Mohbad's death.

In response to the developments, the family has filed an application before the Coroner's Court seeking approval for an independent autopsy and toxicology test. They remain committed to pursuing justice and uncovering the truth behind Mohbad's untimely demise.

The Aloba family's efforts underscore a relentless pursuit for transparency and accountability, aiming to restore public trust in the investigation process. As they await further developments from the authorities, they remain steadfast in their quest for closure and justice for Mohbad.
