During his May Day celebration speech, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declared that the longstanding issue of "dumsor" had been effectively resolved, attributing the success to the resolution of transformer problems and improvements in gas supply.

In his address, the President reassured the nation that "dumsor" would not return, highlighting purported achievements in resolving infrastructure issues. However, despite these assurances, reports indicate that many regions across the country continue to grapple with persistent power outages.

Emmanuel Derrick Xatse, a Research and Policy Analyst at the IES, contested the President's assertions, arguing that available data did not support claims of a resolution to the crisis. In an interview with Accra-based Citinews, Xatse emphasized that the country still faces a significant energy deficit, contradicting the President's claims of success in addressing the issue.

Xatse highlighted data from GRIDCo, indicating that the country's peak generation fell short of demand, with deficits ranging between 200 to 300 megawatts. These figures, he argued, directly contradict the President's narrative of a resolved crisis, suggesting that "dumsor" persists as a pressing issue.

The challenge to the President's assertions underscores ongoing concerns regarding the reliability and adequacy of Ghana's energy infrastructure, raising questions about the government's approach to addressing the crisis amidst continued power challenges experienced by citizens nationwide.

As the debate surrounding Ghana's energy crisis intensifies, stakeholders await further developments and concrete actions to alleviate the persistent burden of power outages affecting businesses and households across the country.
