In a much-anticipated announcement, Dr. Mahanudu Bawumia, Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that the long-awaited outstanding nursing trainee allowances for 2024 will be disbursed this Thursday, May 16, 2024. This decision comes as a relief to nursing and teacher trainees nationwide, whose allowances had been delayed for several months.

The restoration of these allowances, initially revoked by the previous Mahama government but reinstated by the Akufo-Addo administration, has been a focal point of discussion among Ghanaian youth. Dr. Bawumia made the announcement during a spirited engagement with young citizens in Nalerigu, North East Region, where numerous nursing and teacher trainees were present.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Dr. Bawumia conveyed the specifics of the disbursement process, stating, "The Minister of Finance has sent me a message which says that on Thursday, the Controller and Accountant General is going to transfer 177 million Ghana Cedis to the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Health will transfer it to the Nursing trainees." He expressed optimism that the allowances would reflect in the trainees' accounts by the following week.

The declaration sparked jubilation among the attendees, particularly the nursing trainees, who expressed their gratitude by chanting Dr. Bawumia's name. Emphasizing the NPP's commitment to youth welfare, Dr. Bawumia contrasted his party's stance with that of the opposition, asserting, "It is the NPP, as demonstrated by the party's pro-poor policies, and not Mahama and the NDC, that truly cares for nursing and teacher trainees."

As the anticipation for the disbursement builds, Dr. Bawumia reiterated the NPP's dedication to prioritizing the needs of Ghanaian youth, underscoring the significance of their policies in fostering growth and development.

This announcement reaffirms the government's ongoing efforts to support the education sector and alleviate financial burdens on aspiring nurses and teachers, further solidifying its commitment to empowering the nation's youth.
