NDC's Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Celebrates Mother’s Day with Takoradi Women
Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the NDC, marked Mother’s Day with selected women in Takoradi, emphasizing the invaluable role of mothers and indigenous education.
In a heartfelt celebration of Mother’s Day, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), joined selected women at the GNAT Hall in Fijai, Takoradi. The event, held on Sunday, May 12, aimed to honor the tireless efforts of mothers and provide a platform for communal appreciation.
The gathering recognized the significant yet often unpaid labor that mothers contribute daily to their households and communities. Professor Opoku-Agyemang, serving as the guest speaker, applauded mothers for their indispensable roles in nurturing families and shaping society.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate alongside the mothers, Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the importance of indigenous education in fostering national development. She urged against adopting solely Western ideals of womanhood, advocating for the preservation and promotion of Ghanaian values and traditions.
Highlighting the pivotal role of women in various sectors, Professor Opoku-Agyemang encouraged mutual support and empowerment among women. She underscored the importance of passing on skills and knowledge to the younger generation, spanning areas such as dressmaking, home decoration, catering, and beyond.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency, called for increased female participation in politics to advocate for women’s interests effectively.
The event featured additional speakers, including Maribel Akourkor Okine, Regional Director of the Department of Gender of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Doris Obenewaa Darko from Enterprise Life, and Gladys Egyin, the NDC Western Regional Women’s Organiser. Chaired by Nana Akua Kodu II, the Queen Mother of the Essikado Traditional Area, the celebration underscored the collective appreciation and support for women's contributions to society.
