In a recent verdict that sends a strong message against false accusations and violence, the Awutu Breku District Court has sentenced Zakaria Zulkani to four months in prison. The charges stem from an incident where Zulkani conspired with two others to assault a student falsely accused of causing a tricycle rider’s alleged medical issue.

The court also ordered Zulkani to pay a fine of GH₵2,400 for the charge of publication of false news and an additional fine of GH₵1,200 for deceiving a public officer. Moreover, he is required to sign a bond to maintain good behavior for 12 months following his release.

Zulkani's accomplices, Seidu Abdul Nasir and Innusah Musah, faced similar consequences. Nasir received a caution and discharge for conspiracy to commit a crime but was fined GH₵1,800 for assault and ordered to compensate the victim with GH₵2,400. Musah, too, was cautioned and discharged for assault but fined GH₵1,800 for conspiracy to commit a crime and ordered to compensate the victim with GH₵2,400.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Thomas Sarfo and Chief Inspector Bernice Wie Kpuusuu, presented evidence detailing the events of the incident. It was revealed that on March 31, 2024, Zulkani, Nasir, and Musah assaulted the complainant, Abdul Suleman, based on Zulkani's false accusation that Suleman had caused his alleged medical issue.

Fortunately, the Central East Police Patrol Team intervened, rescuing Suleman and bringing both parties to the Millennium City Police station. Medical examination later confirmed that Zulkani's claims were unfounded.

The court's verdict underscores the severity of false accusations and the importance of upholding the rule of law. It serves as a reminder that such actions will not be tolerated in society.
