Lifeguard and "Pirates Of The Caribbean" Actor Dies After Shark Attack Off Oahu
Tamayo Perry, an Ocean Safety lifeguard and actor known for roles in "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," has tragically died following a shark attack off Oahu, Hawaii.
Tamayo Perry, 49, an Ocean Safety lifeguard and actor known for his roles in "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," and "Blue Crush," has died after being attacked by a shark near Goat Island on Sunday afternoon. The tragic incident was confirmed by Honolulu's emergency services.
A caller reported the attack, stating they had seen a man with apparent shark bites. Emergency services arrived at Malaekahana Beach just before 1 PM local time, where rescuers brought Mr. Perry to shore via jet ski. Paramedics then pronounced his death, according to Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.
Mr. Perry had worked as a lifeguard on the North Shore and began his career with the Ocean Safety department in July 2016. Following the attack, Ocean Safety personnel posted shark warnings in the area.
Acting Honolulu Ocean Safety chief Kurt Lager expressed his sorrow, describing Mr. Perry as "a lifeguard loved by all" and a "professional surfer known worldwide." He added, "Tamayo's personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more."
Honolulu mayor Rick Blangiardi called Mr. Perry's death "a tragic loss," noting that he was "a legendary waterman and highly respected."
The lifeguard and surfing community mourns the loss of a beloved figure whose impact reached far beyond the shores of Hawaii.
