John Mahama Vows to Prioritize Resolution of Free SHS Policy Issues
John Mahama, pledges to prioritize resolving issues surrounding the Free SHS policy, emphasizing a stakeholder forum within the first 100 days of his potential presidency.
In a recent address, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana's National Democratic Congress (NDC), has committed to making the resolution of issues surrounding the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy a top priority for a prospective NDC government.
Amid growing concerns over the effectiveness and sustainability of the Free SHS policy, Mahama assured stakeholders of his dedication to addressing the challenges it presents. Speaking at a gathering that included representatives from prominent teacher unions such as the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mahama outlined comprehensive plans to strengthen the education sector.
A key initiative announced by Mahama is the convening of a stakeholder forum on education within the first 100 days of assuming office, aimed at gathering diverse perspectives on enhancing and ensuring quality education delivery.
Mahama emphasized the importance of addressing not only the implementation hurdles of the Free SHS policy but also broader issues such as financing and improving teaching and learning at the basic school level. He expressed his intention for the forum to encompass discussions on access, equity, affordability, and financing of the educational system, with participation from various stakeholders including teachers, parents, students, and educational experts.
This commitment by Mahama underscores the NDC's dedication to addressing the complexities surrounding education policy in Ghana and signals a proactive approach towards finding sustainable solutions for the betterment of the country's education system
