In a concerted effort to combat malaria, the Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Abdel-Razak Yakubu, has emphasized the need for heightened engagement from all stakeholders to eradicate the disease. Speaking at the joint celebration of the 2024 World Malaria Day, Yakubu stressed the importance of safeguarding the nation's future leaders, particularly those under five years old, from the devastating impacts of malaria.

The event, held at the Tarkwa Senior High School in the Western Region, centered on the theme "health equity, gender, and human rights." Activities included educational sessions on malaria prevention, practical demonstrations on the use of mosquito nets and repellents, as well as the distribution of essential resources to combat the disease.

Highlighting the Foundation's commitment to healthcare, Yakubu disclosed a significant investment of $6.2 million in the health sector. He urged students to utilize the donated mosquito repellents effectively to contribute to malaria prevention efforts.

Clement Amakwah, the Western Region Malaria Focal Person, underscored the heightened vulnerability of certain demographics, such as pregnant women and young children, to malaria-related complications. He emphasized the imperative of seeking medical attention promptly and maintaining clean surroundings to mitigate the risk of infection.

Echoing this sentiment, Wilhelmina Tiwaah Duah, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Health Director, noted the region's progress in reducing malaria cases. However, she emphasized the ongoing need for collaborative action to achieve sustained elimination.

The event garnered praise from Benjamin Kesse, the Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsuaem, and the Headmaster of Tarkwa Senior High School, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation and other stakeholders in the fight against malaria.

Despite advancements, malaria remains a prevalent concern, with statistics revealing its prominence in outpatient department attendance. However, the collective efforts of stakeholders offer hope for continued progress towards the ultimate goal of malaria eradication.
