Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has been elected as the Chairperson of the Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies Association in Commonwealth Africa (CACC). In her new role, COP Addo-Danquah aims to foster deeper collaboration and knowledge sharing among member agencies to combat corruption effectively.

COP Addo-Danquah, who also serves as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), emphasized her commitment to training and capacity-building initiatives for officers in the various anti-corruption agencies across Commonwealth Africa. She believes these efforts will enhance the collective capacity of the region to tackle corruption more efficiently.

Speaking at the 14th Commonwealth Regional Conference and Annual General Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, held from May 8-12, 2023, in Accra, COP Addo-Danquah expressed her honor and humility at being entrusted with this critical role. She highlighted the importance of innovative solutions and the exchange of best practices to drive progress in anti-corruption efforts.

COP Addo-Danquah will serve as the Chairperson for a one-year term, succeeding May De Silva, Commissioner for the Seychelles Anti-Corruption Commission. The conference and AGM, which drew participants from anti-corruption agencies, diplomatic corps, international organizations, and civil society across the region, aimed to promote collaboration, share best practices, and strengthen anti-corruption efforts and good governance.

In her acceptance speech, COP Addo-Danquah reaffirmed her dedication to serving with integrity, impartiality, and diligence. "Corruption remains one of the most significant impediments to the development and progress of our nations. It undermines the rule of law, erodes public trust in institutions, and perpetuates inequalities and injustice. As leaders in the fight against corruption, we have a solemn duty to confront this menace head-on, with unwavering resolve and steadfast commitment," she stated.

Outgoing Chairperson May De Silva expressed her appreciation to the association's members for their support during her tenure and called for continuous cooperation and collaboration in the ongoing fight against corruption.

The next CACC conference and AGM are scheduled to take place in South Africa next year.
