Six senior pharmacists have urged stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry to harness the potential of the digital ecosystem to revolutionize healthcare in the nation. They emphasized the necessity for collaboration and the exploration of more cost-effective methods to finance digital innovations, considering technology's pivotal role in modern healthcare.

This call to action was made during a panel discussion at the third West Africa Pharma and Healthcare Conference held in Accra. The discussion, themed "Positioning pharmaceutical companies to take advantage of the digital revolution in pharmacy and AI in healthcare delivery," brought together industry experts to deliberate on key strategies for leveraging digital advancements.

The panel comprised distinguished figures including Dr. (Pharm) Samuel Otuo-Serebour, Managing Director of Drugnet; Dr. (Med) Agyeman Badu, Director of Compliance and Enforcement at the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA); and Dr. (Pharm) Daniel Amaning, Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Ghana. Also present were Frank Torblu, General Secretary of the Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG); Audrey Serwaa Bonsu, CEO of the Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy; and Laura Montis, a representative from EMEA & Agilent Technologies of France and MES Equipment Ltd.

Dr. Amaning highlighted the transition from paper-based processes to comprehensive online services within the Pharmacy Council, streamlining procedures such as registration and inspection. He emphasized the newfound flexibility for clients, who can now complete forms and schedule inspections remotely.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Badu underscored the transformative impact of technology on regulatory functions, with online platforms facilitating license renewals, monitoring, and documentation of findings. He affirmed the commitment to further enhance these digital services.

Ms. Bonsu of the Chamber of Pharmacy emphasized the efficiency gained through digital data collection and dissemination, optimizing resource allocation and reducing administrative burdens.

Additionally, Ms. Montis emphasized the industry's pursuit of simplicity facilitated by technology, driving research and innovation towards streamlined processes and enhanced productivity.

The consensus among the panelists reflects a shared commitment to leveraging digital solutions for the advancement of healthcare delivery in Ghana, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector.
