Power of Interactions in Boosting Ghana's Creative Industry Highlighted at FiDCon

At the Final Design Conference (FiDCon), held on August 3, 2024, at the University of Ghana, industry leaders emphasized the critical role of networking in advancing the creative industry in Ghana. Samuel Allotey, co-founder of Design Junkies, highlighted the importance of connections for designers to access numerous opportunities.
"Networking is key because we realize there are a lot of opportunities, but people just don't know where to get them," Mr. Allotey stated.
The event, organized by thedsgnjunkies, aimed to bring together creative professionals from across the country, offering them a platform to connect, share skills, and gain valuable knowledge. The conference featured workshops on various tools and techniques, including pricing, collaboration, branding, content creation, and thriving as a Ghanaian creative.
Attendees were encouraged to leverage these sessions to learn new skills and make meaningful connections that could advance their careers. Mr. Allotey noted that despite the challenging job market, design remains a lucrative field. He urged designers to create their own opportunities using their skills rather than waiting for traditional employment.
Daniel Ampofo, Creative Director of Third Law, spoke about the global potential for Ghanaian designers. He emphasized the role of remote work in accessing international markets, diversifying portfolios, and gaining exposure to varied cultural aesthetics.
He explained that the design industry offers substantial financial rewards, making it a compelling career choice. The spirit of collaboration was highlighted by Emmanuel Agbeko Gamor, Senior Manager at MTN Ghana, who emphasized the sustainability found in group work over isolated tasks.
The FiDCon event brought together industry experts, aspiring designers, and stakeholders. Design Junkies plans to host more events and continue their advocacy through various channels, including podcasts and YouTube, to further support the design community in Ghana.
