Tiwa Savage Speaks Out Against Being Pitted Against Other Female Artists

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has claimed that she is constantly being pitted against other female artists by overzealous fans.

She said the fans often pit her against every rising female artist, claiming that they are coming to take her “throne.”

The ‘Water & Garri’ actress stated that she would go out of her way to make friends with the new female artists instead because she believes music is not a competition.

Savage spoke in a recent interview with BET.

She said, “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’

“And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artist, won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”

Savage's comments highlight a broader issue in the music industry, where female artists often face unnecessary rivalry and comparison. By promoting camaraderie and support among women in music, Savage hopes to shift the focus away from competition and towards collaboration.
