NPP Volta Chairman Refutes Mahama’s Claims of Propaganda and Vote-Buying

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Woanya, has dismissed claims by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama that the NPP is using propaganda and financial inducements to win votes in the Volta Region.

Addressing the press in Ho, Woanya rejected Mahama’s allegations made during his campaign tour of the region. He emphasized that the growing support for the NPP in the Volta Region, traditionally considered an NDC stronghold, is due to the governing party's focus on development, not inducements or propaganda.

Woanya cited various development projects initiated by the NPP, including the Free SHS policy, the Agenda 111 Project, the Phase Two Expansion of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), the Ho-Sokode and Eastern Corridor Road Projects, and the Keta Water Supply Expansion and Rehabilitation Project. He argued that these initiatives have won the hearts of the people of the region, particularly the youth.

“The people of the Volta Region are now awake and are more interested in accountability and development than blind loyalty to the NDC,” Woanya stated.

He further criticized Mahama for dismissing the Keta Port project as a political gimmick, explaining that the pandemic had delayed the project, but progress has been made with feasibility studies, an executive instrument declaring the Keta area a port zone, and the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer for the project.

Woanya concluded by accusing the NDC and its leader of displaying "fake love" toward the people of the Volta Region, asserting that the NDC has historically neglected the region and only shows interest in it during election periods.

"The Volta Region does not belong to Mahama and the NDC. Our region is only important to them when it serves as a reservoir of votes," Woanya said, warning the NDC to expect further dwindling support in the region.
