A recent international conference, focused on forging partnerships and leveraging digital innovations, showcased the pivotal role of Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) and data-driven solutions in driving tangible impact across humanitarian, developmental, and conservation efforts.

The conference, supported by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and co-hosted by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD), brought together a diverse array of stakeholders including governments, private sector entities, research institutions, NGOs, and funders. With sponsorship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other international organizations, the event aimed to foster collaboration towards a digital future that ensures equitable access to technology for all.

Participants delved into how ICT4D initiatives and data-driven innovations are delivering measurable improvements in people's lives, bolstering the effectiveness of humanitarian relief, development projects, and conservation efforts worldwide.

Hands-on training sessions and interactive discussions on generative AI and locally-driven digital transformation initiatives were among the activities featured during the conference, providing valuable insights into practical strategies for leveraging technology to address pressing global challenges.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, underscored the government's commitment to narrowing the digital divide and promoting inclusive access to technology. She highlighted key initiatives such as mobile money interoperability, paperless port systems, national identity registration, and digital property addressing, which have significantly benefited citizens by streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency.

Emphasizing the importance of empowering young people with digital skills, Minister Owusu-Ekuful stressed the need to equip them with the confidence and capabilities to compete globally, thus ensuring their meaningful participation in the digital economy and fostering sustainable development.

The conference served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, and chart a course towards a digitally inclusive future driven by innovation and collaboration.
