Ghana's Men's Relay Team Punches Ticket to Paris Olympics
Ghana's 4x100 men's relay team secures a spot at the Paris Olympics after an impressive performance at the World Athletics Relays, securing first place in their heat and achieving automatic qualification with a season's best time.
In a thrilling display of speed and precision, Ghana's 4x100 men's relay team has secured their spot at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Dominating Heat Two of the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas, the quartet of Ibrahim Fuseni, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati, and Joseph Paul Amoah blazed through the track with a season's best time of 38.29 seconds, guaranteeing automatic qualification to the 2024 Olympics.
Despite a mishap in the first heat last Saturday, where they dropped the baton, the Ghanaian team bounced back with flawless baton exchanges in Sunday's race. Ibrahim Fuseni set the pace with a lightning-fast 10.69-second start, smoothly passing the baton to Isaac Botsio, who sprinted through his leg in 9.13 seconds. Benjamin Azamati, Ghana's 100m record holder, continued the momentum with a blistering 9.35-second run, while anchor Joseph Paul Amoah sealed the victory with a swift 9.12 seconds to clinch first place.
Nigeria, coming in second with a time of 38.57 seconds, also secured their ticket to the 2024 Olympics. Ghana's men's quartet now joins an elite group of nations, including Canada, China, France, Great Britain, the USA, Jamaica, and Japan, among others, who have qualified for the highly anticipated Paris Olympics.
This marks the second consecutive qualification for Ghana's 4x100 men's relay team, following their appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The team, which recently claimed silver at the African Games, has made history by becoming the first athletics contingent to secure Ghana's spot at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
