In a significant breakthrough, the Elubo Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully apprehended a 32-year-old Ivorian murder suspect, Nduoba Essoi Fulgence. Fulgence is believed to have fled to Ghana from Cote d’Ivoire in an attempt to evade prosecution for a heinous crime.
The arrest, which took place on April 2, 2024, occurred at Edwakpole, a village near Anyinase in the Ellembele District of the Western Region. Fulgence, a taxi driver by profession, stands accused of brutally slashing the throat of his girlfriend, Nda Abekan Anne, also known as Ella, in Cote d’Ivoire, before seeking refuge in Ghana.
According to a statement released by Inspector Moses Manford Akakpo, the Western Regional Public Affairs Officer of the GIS, the arrest was made possible through collaborative efforts between the Elubo Sector Command and authorities on the Ivorian side of the Elubo Border, as well as the Ivorian Police Commissaire.
Initial intelligence indicated that Fulgence might be residing with relatives in the Edwakpole village, approximately 50 kilometers from Elubo. Under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Joshual Krakue, a surveillance team comprising Immigration Officers from the Elubo Sector Command was dispatched to locate the suspect.
After an intensive operation lasting several hours, Fulgence was identified and apprehended in a house believed to be his family residence in Edwakpole village.
Following the arrest, on Tuesday, the Elubo Sector Command of the GIS handed over Fulgence to the Ivorian Police Commissaire in Noe at the Elubo Border, marking a significant step towards his extradition to face justice in Cote d’Ivoire.
The GIS expressed its gratitude to all parties involved in the collaborative effort to apprehend Fulgence, emphasizing the importance of cross-border cooperation in combating crime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
