Fire guts Madina market

Tragedy struck the heart of Madina market in the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal District, Greater Accra region, as a devastating fire erupted late Wednesday evening, engulfing parts of the bustling marketplace.

The inferno, which ignited around 9 pm, mercilessly consumed goods and shops, leaving behind a trail of destruction estimated to be worth thousands of cedis.

According to Deputy Director of Operations at the Ghana National Fire Service, D.O.1. Kofi Forson, firefighting efforts were hindered by challenges in accessing the spreading flames amidst the closed shops, forcing responders to break through obstacles, intensifying the already arduous task.

"The night-time blaze presented significant challenges, with limited access hindering our efforts to contain the fire's spread," stated Forson during a briefing with journalists.

At present, the cause of the conflagration remains shrouded in mystery, as authorities work tirelessly to investigate the incident and assess the extent of the damage inflicted upon the Madina community. Stay tuned for further updates as this story unfolds.
