Despite the morning rains, residents of Walewale and its environs exhibited unwavering support for Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Monday.
Dr. Bawumia kicked off his campaign tour of the North East Region with a fervent welcome from the people of his home region. Arriving in Nasia, a town preceding Walewale, scores of supporters braved the downpour to gather around his campaign bus, slowing down the convoy's progress.
Undeterred by the weather, the enthusiastic crowd, comprising individuals of all ages, including many on motorbikes, led Dr. Bawumia's procession towards Walewale as he headed towards the regional capital, Nalerigu.
As the convoy approached Walewale, the throng of supporters thickened, prompting a slowdown in movement. Demonstrating his solidarity with the people, Dr. Bawumia alighted from his vehicle and joined the crowd on foot along the main Walewale-Bolga road, marching alongside them in the rain.
The atmosphere in Walewale was electrifying as Dr. Bawumia's presence ignited further excitement among the residents. More supporters, both on foot and vehicles, emerged from various corners of the town, chanting his name in a show of solidarity.
Dr. Bawumia's itinerary in the North East Region is brimming with engagements, including a visit to the Nayiri, the traditional ruler of Mamprugu. Additionally, he is scheduled to meet with clergy, imams, and representatives from the North East Regional House of Chiefs. A session with the region's youth is also on the agenda, reflecting Dr. Bawumia's commitment to engaging with diverse segments of society during his regional tours.
