Asante Kotoko Goalkeeper Fredrick Asare Predicts a New Era in Democracy Cup Clash with Hearts of Oak
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Fredrick Asare, expresses confidence in a new era for the club ahead of their clash with Hearts of Oak in the inaugural Democracy Cup.
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Fredrick Asare believes the club will kickstart a new era when they face off against Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup. The highly anticipated match is set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, July 17, marking the inaugural edition of this cup initiative by the Parliament of Ghana.
This encounter will be the third meeting between the two teams following their previous clashes in the Ghana Premier League. Hearts of Oak have a history of clinching the maiden edition of trophy initiatives against Kotoko, but Asare is confident that this trend will end on Wednesday.
Despite parting ways with 21 players since the end of the season, Asare remains optimistic about his team's chances. "It's a new era. Players are out and new players are in. As the coach said, we've trained very well," Asare stated. "What has happened [with Hearts winning the first of any cup trophies] is something of the past and [today] the narrative is going to change."
In addition to the main event, there will be a curtain-raiser featuring a Parliament select team against former Black Stars players. The winner of the game between Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will earn the opportunity to face MLS side DC United.
