Trump Calls Biden "Worst President" Following Withdrawal from 2024 Race
Former President Donald Trump labeled Joe Biden as the worst president in U.S. history after Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
Former President Donald Trump has lashed out at Joe Biden, calling him "the worst president in the history of the United States" after Biden announced he would not be running for another term at the White House.
In a brief phone interview with NBC News, Trump's remarks were sharp and unrestrained. "Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of the United States by far," Trump said. "There has never been a president who has done such damage to our country. From energy independence to letting in millions and millions of illegal immigrants." He added, "We will fix what he has done."
The announcement from President Biden, 81, came after months of speculation regarding his age and capacity to serve another four years. Biden stated that his decision to withdraw was made in the best interest of his party and the country.
Asked by NBC if he was surprised by Biden’s withdrawal, Trump responded, "He should never have been there in the first place. He should have stayed in his basement." Trump, who was the first former president to be criminally convicted following a trial over hush money in May, also took to his Truth Social platform to call Biden "crooked," asserting that he was "not fit to run for president... certainly not fit to serve - and never was!"
Trump claimed Biden attained the presidency through deceit and media manipulation, stating, "He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement." Trump further criticized Biden’s handling of the border, claiming, "All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn't capable of being President, and he wasn't - And now, look what he's done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Trump continues to face two remaining criminal cases related to the Capitol riots in January 2021 and alleged electoral fraud in Georgia.
In a letter addressed to "my fellow Americans," Biden expressed that serving as president had been the "greatest honor" of his life. Biden’s withdrawal from the race plunges the 2024 presidential contest into uncharted territory, with another Democrat needing to step forward to face Trump, the Republican nominee. The upcoming race, already fraught with tension, division, and an assassination attempt, now takes a new turn.
Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, urging Democrats to unite to defeat Trump. Trump reportedly told CNN that he believes Harris will be easier to defeat.
Bring it on': Reaction from Republicans and Supporters
JD Vance, Trump’s pick for vice president, echoed Trump's sentiments, calling Biden "the worst President in my lifetime," and criticized Harris for her support of Biden's policies. "Over the last four years she co-signed Biden's open border and green scam policies that drove up the cost of housing and groceries," Vance said. "She owns all of these failures, and she lied for nearly four years about Biden's mental capacity - saddling the nation with a president who can't do the job."
Vance stated he and Trump are "ready to save America, whoever's at the top of the Democrat ticket," adding, "Bring it on."
Other Republicans, including House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik and Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, called for Biden to resign. Stefanik declared, "If Joe Biden can't run for re-election, he is unable and unfit to serve as president of the United States. He must immediately resign." Johnson added, "November 5 cannot arrive soon enough."
Texas Congressman Pat Fallon questioned Biden's ability to continue serving, stating, "If Biden doesn't think he's capable of serving as Commander in Chief for another 4 years, what reason do we have to believe he can do the job for the next 4 months? Who is in charge?"
Montana Senator Steve Daines expressed national security concerns and called for Biden's resignation on X, writing, "If Joe Biden is no longer capable of running for re-election, he is no longer capable of serving as President. Being President is the hardest job in the world, and I no longer have confidence that Joe Biden can effectively execute his duties as Commander-in-Chief."
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized Harris, accusing her of being complicit in covering up Biden’s incapacity and called her tenure as border czar a failure. "Democrats are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic," DeSantis said.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise accused Democratic party leaders of disrespecting their voters by forcing Biden out, stating, "After lecturing others about democracy, they just forced Joe Biden off the ticket - trashing the primary choice of 14 million of their own voters."
Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., also criticized Harris, calling her more liberal and less competent than Biden. "She was put in charge of the border and we saw the worst invasion of illegals in our history!!!" he stated on X.
