Professor (Mrs) Rita Akosua Dickson has been granted a second term appointment of two years as Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Her initial four-year term was set to conclude at the end of July 2024. However, the University Council, during its 282nd Regular Meeting on Thursday, June 20, approved her continuation in office, extending her tenure until July 31, 2026.

The decision follows the endorsement of the committee tasked with evaluating the renewal of her appointment. The official announcement was conveyed via a notice dated June 20, 2024, signed by A.K. Boateng, Registrar and Secretary to the Council.

Rita Akosua Dickson, a distinguished Professor of Pharmacy, assumed office as KNUST's first female Vice Chancellor on August 1, 2020, after serving as Pro-Vice-Chancellor. She is celebrated for her contributions to academia and her specialization in phytochemistry.

Born on August 1, 1970, in Ghana, Rita Akosua Dickson completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at KNUST in 1994. She continued her academic journey with an M.Pharm (Pharmacognosy) in 1999 and later pursued her PhD at King's College, University of London, UK, supported by a Commonwealth scholarship.

Returning to Ghana in 2007, Prof. Dickson resumed her career at KNUST, progressing from lecturer to senior lecturer and eventually to associate professor. Her appointment as Pro-Vice-Chancellor in September 2018 marked a historic milestone for KNUST.

Throughout her career, Prof. Dickson has focused her research on bioactive natural products for the treatment of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, establishing herself as a leader in the field of phytochemistry.

Her leadership at KNUST has been marked by initiatives aimed at enhancing academic excellence and fostering innovation within the university community. As Vice Chancellor, she continues to shape the future of higher education in Ghana, championing research and development initiatives.
