The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has underscored the critical need for a visionary leader endowed with credibility and a solid reputation to propel Ghana's development.

Dr. Bawumia showcased his proven track record as a problem solver, highlighting impactful policies initiated during his tenure as Ghana’s Vice President. Notable among these initiatives are the digital national identity system, the national property address system, mobile money interoperability, and the digitalisation of public services, which have collectively promoted efficiency and reduced corruption in public administration.

Speaking at a meeting with religious leaders in the Central Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the paramount need for problem solvers, forward-thinking individuals, and innovators within Ghana’s leadership. “I am a problem solver and forward-thinking individual with innovative solutions. My tenure as Vice-President speaks to my capabilities,” he stated.

Despite not having served as president, Dr. Bawumia pointed to his dedication as Vice-President, which he said demonstrates his commitment to overcoming challenges that hinder sustainable development. Drawing comparisons between himself and his primary opponent, former President John Mahama, Dr. Bawumia asserted his superiority based on his "track record, work ethic, and vision."

He argued that Mr. Mahama's tenure was marked by underperformance and a failure to effectively combat corruption and other critical issues. “Former President Mahama has previously held the position, but his track record is a testament to failure. He struggled to combat corruption and address numerous issues. Economically, Mahama’s presidency ranks as the poorest in the Fourth Republic,” Dr. Bawumia declared.

Highlighting the rejections faced by Mr. Mahama in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Dr. Bawumia positioned himself as the embodiment of change and progress. “John Mahama does not embody change, having been rebuffed in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. On the contrary, my fresh perspective and proven track record as Vice-President represent the future of our nation,” he said.

In conclusion, Dr. Bawumia pledged greater accountability to the Ghanaian populace, adding, “I intend to seek the people’s mandate beyond 2024. Mahama’s single term presidency means he will not be answerable to Ghanaians, having no plans for re-election.
