Koforidua to host 67th Indece Day celebration
The launch of this year's event, themed "Our Democracy, Our Pride," took place in Koforidua, accompanied by the unveiling of the anniversary logo. Notable attendees include the President of Cote d'Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, expected as the Guest of Honour, along with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who will take the salute.
A significant presence is expected from various contingents, including 21 from different security services, 11 schools in the Eastern Region, and several cultural groups. Distinguished guests include former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama, the Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Supreme Court Justices, all 275 Members of Parliament, and the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, among others.
Additionally, members of the diplomatic corps representing 120 countries, the Council of State, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as various groupings from different regions, will be in attendance.
The decision to rotate the venue of the independence celebration from Accra to different regions was initiated by President Akufo-Addo in 2017 to boost regional economies and showcase their cultures. This year's event in Koforidua is seen as an opportunity to highlight the rich culture of the Eastern Region.
Both the Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mr. Lord Commey, and the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, expressed satisfaction with the preparations and emphasized the significance of the event in promoting regional economies and cultures. They called for collective effort from various stakeholders to ensure the success and memorability of the celebration.
