Suspected Serial Killer Escapes Police Custody in Nairobi
Collins Jumaisi, suspected of killing multiple women and dumping bodies in a quarry, has escaped police custody in Nairobi. He previously confessed to 42 murders but claims coercion.
A man suspected of killing multiple women and dumping their bodies in a Nairobi quarry has escaped police custody, raising alarms in Kenya's capital. Collins Jumaisi, who had been arrested last month in connection with the grisly discovery of at least six bodies wrapped in plastic bags at Kware quarry, broke out of the Gigiri police station on Tuesday.
According to police spokesperson Resila Onyango, Jumaisi escaped alongside 12 Eritrean nationals who were also being held at the station. The police are currently conducting a search operation to recapture the fugitive.
Jumaisi's case had drawn significant public attention after he allegedly confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife. The victims' bodies were found in the quarry, which had been turned into a dumping ground for waste. Despite his confession, Jumaisi's lawyer argued in court that the confession had been extracted through torture, a claim that has been denied by prosecutors.
The escape has heightened fears in Nairobi, especially among the families of missing women, as authorities work to track down Jumaisi. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious sightings as the manhunt intensifies.
