In a bid to promote unity and community cohesion, Hajia Nasira Afrah, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Sekyere Afram Plains, orchestrated a vibrant football gala that drew participants and spectators alike from across the constituency.

The gala kicked off with an electrifying opening match, where Hamidu narrowly defeated Dagomba with a score of 1-0. This set the stage for an intense competition among the eight participating teams: Dagomba, Anyinofi, Drobonso, Fumsua, Hamidu, Dawia, Issahkrom, and Seneso.

The final match, a nail-biting encounter that ended in a goalless draw, saw Drobonso emerge victorious with a 3-2 win in penalties, clinching the championship trophy. The event was graced by notable figures including Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South; Mavis Kukua Bissue, PC for Ahanta West; the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC; and Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee.

Sharaf Mahama, son of Ghana's former president, lent his support to Hajia Nasira Afrah during the kickoff and awards ceremony, highlighting the event's significance in promoting community engagement through sports.

Hajia Nasira Afrah used the occasion to encourage the youth to embrace unity and collaboration for sustainable development. She commended their peaceful conduct during the recent electoral registration exercise, underscoring the importance of peaceful coexistence in achieving communal goals.

During the awards ceremony, individual accolades were presented to outstanding players: Seth Adomako (Essien) was named Best Player, Owusu Boateng Godfred received the title of Best Goalkeeper, and Abdul Razak Yahaya was crowned Goal King for his exceptional scoring prowess.

In recognition of their triumph, the Drobonso team received a cash prize of GHS 10,000 as tournament champions. The runner-up team was awarded GHS 6,000, with the third and fourth-place teams receiving GHS 3,000 and GHS 1,000 respectively.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Hajia Nasira Afrah expressed her delight at the role of sports in fostering unity and camaraderie within Sekyere Afram Plains. She emphasized the potential of football in nurturing talent and providing career opportunities, echoing the advice of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who encouraged youth to consider football and education as pathways to personal and community development.

The football gala organized by Hajia Nasira Afrah stands as a testament to the transformative power of sports in uniting communities and advancing shared aspirations for progress and harmony.
