Former Headmaster Arrested for Alleged Salary Fraud in Ghana

Police Patrick Wisdom Krampah, the former headmaster of Ahamansu L. A. Erishad Primary School in the Oti Region, Ghana. Krampah was apprehended by the Jasikan Police on allegations of receiving GH¢72,759.32 in unearned salaries.

The arrest was prompted by the directives of Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), following findings from the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report. The report indicated that Krampah had been receiving unearned salaries from February 2018 to June 2020, during which he had left his position as headteacher to work for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as a project assistant.

The PAC ordered the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to engage the police in arresting Krampah for financial impropriety against the state. Subsequently, Krampah was taken into custody and is currently assisting the police with their investigations.

The Auditor-General recommended that the District Director of Education pursue the recovery of the misappropriated funds from Krampah, along with interest at the prevailing bank rate. In the event of non-compliance, the amount should be recovered from the district director and validators. Dr. Avedzi emphasized that Krampah’s actions violated the Public Financial Management Regulation.
