The senior national football team of Ghana, known as the Black Stars, has expressed their gratitude to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for its timely intervention in funding dialysis treatment in Ghana. This commendation comes as part of the celebrations marking the NHIA's 20th anniversary.
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has initiated a six-month free dialysis support program for renal patients, which will run from June to December 2024. This program aims to alleviate the financial burden on patients requiring dialysis treatment, enhancing the overall healthcare benefits provided by the NHIA.
During their visit, the Black Stars, led by Captain Thomas Partey, congratulated Dr. Aboagye on his new role within the NHIA and expressed their appreciation for the authority's efforts in improving healthcare services. The team emphasized the significance of this initiative and pledged to collaborate with the NHIA to promote wellness and healthy habits through sports and fitness activities.
The Black Stars underscored the importance of this partnership in fostering a healthier community, highlighting the potential impact of combining sports and healthcare advocacy. In response, Dr. Aboagye thanked the team for their support and encouraged them to serve as advocates for the NHIA and the broader health sector. He also extended his best wishes to the Black Stars for their upcoming World Cup qualification matches.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are scheduled to face the Eagles of Mali in Bamako on Thursday, June 6, 2024, as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Match day three qualifiers.
