NPP Candidate Vows to Restart Mankraso Astroturf Project

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South-West, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, has pledged to mobilise resources and equipment to resume construction of the stalled astroturf project in Mankraso.

The abandoned project has sparked controversy and blame between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP in the constituency, with each party accusing the other of sabotage.

In an interview with Citi FM on Monday, June 17, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah refuted the NDC's claims that the project was hastily initiated to deceive voters during the NPP’s parliamentary primaries.

He countered by accusing the NDC of intimidating the contractor and ultimately driving them away from the site to score political points at the expense of the Mankraso community.

Mr. Dapaah explained that the contractor opted to work at night due to the presence of other facilities around the park. However, he claimed that the NDC exploited the night hours to throw stones at the workers, eventually forcing them to abandon the project when the threats became too frequent.

“Because the place is surrounded by a school, a hospital, and the district assembly, the contractor will go there in the evening, and anytime he goes there to work, the NDC people will go there and pelt him with stones, and so he finally packed and left.

“But I have made up my mind and I have my bulldozer and the necessary equipment to construct the pitch and I am sending my machines to the place to clear the place," he said.
