In a solemn press statement released yesterday, the family of the beloved Nigerian actor, Mr Ibu, whose real name is John Okafor, has disclosed the funeral arrangements following his passing on March 2.
Mr Ibu's final journey will commence on June 25 with a march in his honor in his hometown in Enugu state, followed by a candlelight procession and a lively entertainment night on June 26, dubbed Mr Ibu’s Night.
On June 27, a wake-keeping ceremony will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, culminating in the burial and funeral service on June 28. The family has extended an invitation for all to join them in honoring the memory of their beloved patriarch during this five-day affair.
The ceremony will draw to a close on June 30 with a thanksgiving service in church for family members, friends, and well-wishers, celebrating the life and legacy of Mr Ibu.
John Okafor, fondly known as Mr Ibu, endeared himself to audiences with his comedic prowess, starring in over 200 films since his breakout role in 2004's "Mr Ibu." His talent and humor left an indelible mark on the Nigerian film industry, with memorable performances in movies such as "Coffin Producers," "Husband Suppliers," "Mr Ibu in London," "Police Recruit," "9 Wives," "Ibu in Prison," and "Keziah."
The Okafor family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans, inviting all to join them in bidding farewell to their beloved icon on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Amuri, Enugu State.
